I was under the impression that cities wouldn't be attacked by other players in this server, only by marauders and such. Isn't that why there are hidden mines and such? And if this impression is correct then why is my neighbor attacking me?

possibly to rob you...the only difference in grail is that you can't just out-right just destroy all of the opponents buildings or capture a active town without first agreeing to war from both players.

Well then the description of the server is incorrect. I specifically chose this server because it was described as player vs environment. I selected not to be at war from the other player, but now all of my troops are dead and the other player's troops are still in my city, making it impossible for me to re-establish my own troops.

you do not have to declare war to attack someone, just to capture their town and destory buildings other than walls.

To reestablish yourself try to hide your rally point in a corner until you can get enough guys to fight the enemy.

For a strategy of what to do to fight robbers, please refer to the post entitled "very frustrating" http://www.1100ad.com/forumviewthread.php?id=6232#39458
There are some good ideas there!

I convinced the other player to leave my city, but I agree with bb. The description of the server is misleading. I have no problem with computerized attacks from "the environment" since that is the description. And I liked that I could send my troops into battle against the adventurehuts and such. But if players can still attack other players regardless of permission to fight then the description of how the game is played on the server is not correct.

i agree its very misleading... but i learnt to play on cusade world so u can learn to play in a hostile enviroment
and i do think there should be diff rules on teh grail world like u can only attack if u declare war (cost -50 rep) and i think the computer should be alittle more harsh and send more than average slaves ect and more well equiped trooops to make it very intersing

but this is true. for war, both sides have to agree to it first. you can still attack players but players can worry not about loseing their towns and the destruction of their buildings (besides walls) so the PvP element has been limited but there is a higher PvE element than other servers.

PvP = you can out-right kill opponents when ever you decide to, making them restart from scratch. big battles occur from wanting to capture or destroy another active player's town(s)
PvE = both players must agree with war which, if accepted by both, either player can out-right kill the other and make them restart from scratch. most big battles will happen in the adventure huts since you can't do PvP actions without acceptance from both sides
