I've been switching back and forth to melee and experimenting. I've noticed that my "time clock", on the upper right hand time of the screen tends to routinely reset when I encounter multiple opponents, and my guys never seem to be able to close with the enemy in order to do their melee thing. Eventually they do close but it takes forever. Is there something I can do (I don't think this is a settings issue under profile). I say this because I'm not actually forcing my troops to march into the melee. I'm simply changing my aggression settings from low and ranged to high and melee. Any input?

What is it timing? attacking (cross swords) or walking (guy walking) etc?
make sure that you have aggression set to high and attack range set to melee. If you do a change mid-battle, make sure the change stuck, since it likes to reset your changed-but-not-saved options before you can save them.
First, it seems you are doing this change mid-battle, are you sure you are saving the settings you changed too? If so, this may be a glitch of some sort/reason. As a rule, you should always designate the target it might not help, but it does not hurt. That way, you know exactly what your army is doing within the lag time frame.
Speaking of army lag time frame, there is a setting in, you guessed it, "settings", that you can change the "army lag" time. This tells the computer when to "take over" in "X" amount of seconds passed since last issued order. The lower the number, the quicker the AI negates your current orders to your groups.

ok, my swords remain crossed, and when on low aggression and raged, the time clock is not on (I am stationary). When I change my aggression settings to high and range setting to melee, my countdown clock kicks in an I start moving towards my enemy. The time indicated on the clock is usually the time it takes my troops to get to the enemy's square.
I am making this change mid battle and usually when against multiple opponents (they tend to appear randomly in the huts and when they get stacked in one location I change my settings to wipe them out). Now, the clock reset seems to happen randomly and all of a second I go from 30 seconds (or whatever) back to the time it took when I invoked the change in aggression settings (3+min in the mountains from a few squares away) This is simply an example. It is almost as if the computer can't make up its mind who to attack because the enemy is moving around. Does this make any sense?
