The Rise of Mighty Armies»
13 August 2026
The armies of the realm are growing stronger, and with great power comes a greater cost. These changes are necessary to keep warfare challenging, meaningful, and strategically balanced.
A smaller but more efficient army can now achieve more than a vast force of weaker warriors.
Choose your troops wisely, invest in their strength, and let quality triumph over quantity.
The Battle of Aljubarrota, fought on 14 August 1385, became a remarkable example of strategy and tactical superiority overcoming overwhelming numbers. The Portuguese army, led by King João I, faced a much larger Castilian force but used the terrain, strong defensive positions, and disciplined formations to turn the enemy’s advantage against them. Careful planning, coordination, and well-timed attacks allowed the smaller Portuguese army to achieve a decisive victory and secure Portugal’s independence.
The Portuguese leader’s green-and-red banner, bearing the royal coat of arms, flew above the battlefield as a symbol of unity, courage, and determination, inspiring the soldiers as they fought toward victory.
Aljubarrota proved that a smaller army with superior strategy can defeat a much larger enemy.

Pēterdiena 2026»
29 June 2026
Pēterdiena, celebrated on 29 June, is one of Latvia's traditional summer feast days and marks the time when the year's busiest haymaking season begins. The day is named after Peter, and many people named Pēteris celebrate their name day with family and friends. According to Latvian folk traditions, Pēterdiena symbolically closes the festive Midsummer season, as wreaths are taken down and everyday work resumes. Farmers once believed that the weather on Pēterdiena could hint at the quality of the upcoming harvest, and they paid close attention to nature's signs. In many regions, people gathered for festive meals, singing, and visits to neighbors, keeping alive the warm spirit of community.
May this Pēterdiena bring you joy, good fortune, and cherished moments with loved ones—and even despite today's very warm weather, may you find a pleasant way to celebrate this beautiful Latvian tradition!

Summer Solstice 2026»
18 June 2026
During the medieval
Summer Solstice, people gathered to celebrate the longest day of the year with music, dancing, and great feasts. Villagers decorated their homes with flowers, oak leaves, and fresh greenery believed to bring good fortune and protection. Large bonfires were lit on hilltops, and people sang, danced, and leapt over the flames for luck and health. Herbalists collected special midsummer plants, as it was believed their healing powers were strongest on this magical night. Communities stayed awake until dawn, enjoying games, storytelling, and festivities beneath the stars.
May the spirit of the Summer Solstice bring warmth, joy, and abundant harvests to all.
