In Latvia, St. Peter’s Day, known as "Pēterdiena," was traditionally celebrated on June 29th with strong ties to ancient midsummer customs. It marked the end of the haymaking season, so rural communities often held small feasts and gatherings to honor hard work and the coming harvest. People would bake special breads, cook festive meals, and sometimes light bonfires—similar to the summer solstice traditions. Church services were held in honor of St. Peter, especially in parishes named after him. In some regions, young people would go singing from house to house, a practice rooted in pre-Christian fertility rituals. Farmers also believed it was a good time to bless their tools and animals. Though not a public holiday today, Pēterdiena still holds cultural significance in Latvia’s folk calendar.
