Beer is one of the most ancient alcoholic beverages know to humanity. It was brewed in ancient Egypt, Sumer and even in China in the times of Shang dynasty. Beer was spread through Europe by Germanic and Celtic tribes as far back as 3000 BC and was used widely in the regions not suited for grape cultivation. In the Middle Ages beer was considered the drink of poor people, who cannot allow to drink wine.

In Europe wheat, oats, rye, millet and barley were used to brew beer. Hops were added much later and first mentioned in Europe around 822 by a Carolingian Abbot. In 1516, William IV, Duke of Bavaria, adopted the purity law, according to which the only allowed ingredients of beer are water, hops and barley-malt. German breweries still use this regulation, while beers in other countries may have additions such as maize, rice, wheat, cane sugar or sugar syrups.

The first Oktoberfest was held in the year 1810 in honor of the Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig's marriage to Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen. The festivities began on October 12, 1810 and ended on October 17th with a horse race. Festival became annual and during last 200 years was cancelled only in times of war and due to cholera epidemics.
In 1872 the festival was moved forward into September, as it allowed for better weather conditions. Because the September nights were warmer, the visitors were able to enjoy the gardens outside the tents much longer without feeling chilly. In 1904 the festival was finally moved into September, but last day of the festival - the Sunday - should certainly hit the October. This tradition is still supported.

To celebrate the Oktoberfest, 1100AD team gives to all players Roast meat and Beer keg artifacts and proudly presents new hero, available in the game shop - German Barmaid (traditional Bavarian dress included).
