Today Russian language celebrates its birthday, made official by a decree signed by Russian president on 6th of June, 2011.This date is timed to coincide with the birth of the poet Alexander Pushkin, who is considered the true founder of modern Russian literary language.
Pushkin was born on June 6, 1799 in Moscow. He descended from a distinguished family of the Russian nobility that traced its ancestry back to Ratsha, a contemporary of Alexander Nevsky. Pushkin wrote repeatedly about his ancestry in poetry and prose, and described his long line of ancestors as the example of the true "aristocracy", who honestly served his country, but not highly favored by the rulers, and even "persecuted". He repeatedly described (including an art form) the image of his mother’s great-grandfather - African Abram Petrovich Hannibal, who became the servant and disciple of Peter I, and then a military engineer and general.
