Dear players, 443 years ago, world's first atlas of the modern type - Theatrum Orbis Terrarum (eng. Theatre of the World) was released. Written by Abraham Ortelius and originally printed on May 20, 1570, in Antwerp, it consisted of a collection of uniform map sheets and sustaining text bound to form a book for which copper printing plates were specifically engraved. The Ortelius atlas is sometimes referred to as the summary of sixteenth-century cartography. I have found a digital copy of this great compilation of maps. You can find it here. (preferably knowledge of Latin) In this topic, you can discuss all kinds of maps, from naval to star maps. |
