If I have 2 different legions on the same spot will the meat on Line 1 from 1 legion protect the troops in the 2nd legion?
More specifically, if 1 legion has meat on Line 1 but the 2nd legion has nothing on Line 1 will the meat protect all of the 2nd Legion? Or will Line 2 of the 2nd legion (which I suppose can be considered the front line since Line 1 is empty) take damage even while Line 1 of the 1st Legion is still standing?
Logically, any troops on Line 1 will be in front of all other troops regardless of legion, but I am seeing my 2nd line take damage even though there is a large meat shield from another legion on the same spot?
What I suspect is happening is that any Line that is empty is just ignored and subsequent lines are automatically promoted.
Is that the way it is intended to work? If so, I need to rethink my formations!
Anyone have any definitive answers for me on this please?
Thanks

Take damage from archers or "shooter troop types" yes they will. Melee combat yes they will take hits as everyone is in play in the same space.
Think about it, archers will shoot and hit various targets in range, sometimes a swordsman, sometimes they hit a knight. Are you trying to slow down an advance by an enemy or prolong shooter combat?

Yes, if both groups are on the same cell. This is true for allied groups too.
Just do this:
Overlay all formations from all groups (including allied groups) within the same cell. all damage dealt is to the X line where X is the leading line that has troops in it.
There are two types of damage. First is damage from enemy troops which is always dealt to the leading line within that cell. Next is damage to melee troops when those melee troops are attacking. Lets explain this type of damage below...
Look at your detailed report. There are two sides, left (Attacker) and right (Defender). Damage from the enemy always is dealt to the defender side. Damage from your melee troops engaging in melee is dealt to the attacker side's melee units that are attacking.

Hmmmm... crimson thanks for this and the further clarification you provided before the crash!
I think I get it now.
And thanks again to you to testickle as my previous post has been lost!
Appreciate the help.
Is there anyway to prevent troops from entering into melee combat (apart from keeping them away from the enemy of course!)?
