Since Aragon does not have tactics, is it any different attacking a city with 3 heroes (say with 500 troops each) as compared to attacking a city with 30 heroes (say with 5000 troops each)?

Is there a good rule of thumb to use to assign x number of troops with each hero (i.e. 250 troops per hero), assuming each has a master skill in leadership?

Then is it even possible to take a Teuton Castle without help from any allies / order members? A few weeks ago, I sent 5000 each (swords, pikes, archers, norman archers) with 1000 each (knights, marksmen) and 15 heroes and lasted only 2 hours.

The only thing I could find was a build note:
Aragon: Added morale bonus for each hero for everyone as it is now for city owner (you don't need to send million campaigns anymore)

now, what that morale boost is, I do not know. Your best hopes of finding it is to either do the experiments your self or join a order which has very experienced players who will tell you the detailed info.

now, remember, hero skills are not applied to all units.
Quote feildmaster:
Question: How do hero skills work?
During battle the hero selects a random troop type (Ex: Swordsman) and gives ALL his buffs to that troop for that round.
The troop with the bonus will have a crown near it's icon.

That quote came from here:

Thank you Crimson. That does explain the game mechanics somewhat.

It would appear to me that once someone does experiments and find the right balance of troops with the right formation, it becomes privileged information kept amongst tight knitted group or within an Order. To certain extent, rightfully so as knowing what to send and how many to send would give them an advantage in the game.

I wish the developers would participate more in the forums providing clarifications rather than users to second guess developer's intentions or doing "experiments" to figure out the game mechanics. Only new users who has the patience trying to figure things out by sorting through hundreds of posts over 3 years would stay on; the rest 95% would quit before the newbie protection is up.

Enough chatter. I'm off running more experiments. (:s11:)

Honestly, I feel this is part of the game. knowledge is king in this game, not just pure army. when you think about it, this is the true sense of "tactical" and "strategical" warfare. To be able to craft such mindful actions to kill your enemies sets you apart in this game. Now, you can follow "guide lines" that some knowledgeable player(s) put together but until you experiment, actually understand the game, you most likely can never adapt quick enough to the change of game-play. Like it (or not), you must adapt to survive as the game is ever changing.

and that is the major downside...the learning curve gets steeper every week, and its near vertical already. vassal system is in place to help with the info gathering and protection, but in most servers, this is abused by big players to milk their vassals for the most merc they can offer, which, it think, harms them more... Right now, in most servers, there is a order called Academy which is ran by stromm (I think that is his name). Its a developer helped "boot camp" to help new players with the game in ways of experience and knowledge. I think they are on Aragon too, maybe look them up?

Regarding Academy, I recently "graduated".

They encouraged asking questions. I asked the same question there too. But Crimson, you gave a much thorough answer here than the answer I got at the Academy Order.

For example, the answer I got from the Academy Order on how many troops I can attack with each hero (my second question) was there is no limit. I think my question and the answer I received got lost in translation somewhere as English does not seem to be the proficient language for many of the big players in the game.

To my third question (taking Teuton castle), I was told by the Academy Order not to even try without the permission / help from the Order master.

this basically says, the more heroes you have, the more troops can attack.
now, in the other servers, we usually say "# of units per group". So I guess here you would say, how many troops per hero which is basically the morale boost the hero gives which I do not know...

honestly, until you get into a strong order, don't count on getting merc camps. That's just how things work in this game. Your best bet is to buy them, but you need protection so still strive to get into a good order.

Thanks Crimson for your excellent advice.
I think I'm starting to figure this game out.(:s10:)
