What? You can not enclose a fortress within a contour.

The situation I'm in is that I have started to surround a city with walls. The square immediately to the East of the city is empty and this is where I want to put the Fort. The Fortress is on the next square. So going from west to east, 3 squares with city, fort then the Fortress. I hope this is clearer

If I understand it correctly, it should be possible.
But I'm not sure if I do understand it correctly. (:s14:)

That's the main point.

I wasn't sure if I had explained myself properly. Anyway, thanks for your help. I'll just suck it and see. I'll let you know what happens.

as long the fortress is not within the contour, it will be fine. fortresses are not impassable in valley view.

Yes it does work. Also I found out the hard way that fortresses are not impassable. That's one reason how I got myself into a mess.
