I am still beginner at Outreme world (playing from 30 Dec 2011, have 3 towns - position approx. 380).
A much stronger player than me - ISCEON (order master "regno di Sicilia" pos. 51) offered me to be his vasal. He was not the first one, but when I refused his "offer" he immediately declared war against me. Of corse - with the whole REG order.

1) I will not speak how "brave he is" - as he told me, I do not interest him, he allows his vasals to destroy me.

2) I thought that relationship Lord - Vasal is voluntary. For me is his behaviour very wicked - how can I defend myself against a player strong like him (not speaking about rest of the order). I thought that blackmailing is against rules in this game, but maybe I was wrong and this is an ordinary procedure here.

3) I do not want only to complain, but this is very annoing. As I see it, a new player have no other choice than to follow "a king" like ISCEON or he will be destroyed. There is no time or place to develop yourself.

4) Shouldnt we fight first of all against different nations (for example Sicilians against Seljuks etc.)?

Anyway, this disapointed me a lot - now I almost regret that I woted for 1100ad as a best online game.

Hello Paran007.

Do not let one players antics give you an impression of every player in the server, there are many nice players in this game so don't get the wrong idea(:s1:)
Some players are like this.. it is a war game afterall and I definitely see your point (about Sicilians against Seljuks etc) and I agree.
isceon is a good and experienced player (:s21:), but I understand you will feel forced/pressurised into accepting his vassal request - which of course you shouldn't be, you should feel comfortable and safe.
Vassalship / Lordship is completely voluntary my friend, don't feel forced. You always have a choice. Blackmailing isn't against any rules, but it's a sneaky way of playing (:s9:)

I recommend you get a different lord/ask for a different lord, someone who is also Sicilian and will help you defend you and your towns against isceon if he does attack.

I wish you good luck in the game - don't let this little bad experience put you off this game. It's brilliant when you get to grips with it, and the way some players enjoy the game (:attack:)

Hi Paran007,

First, welcome to the Outremer Server and congratulations on keeping up with the game: 380th player out of more than 4000, for a "beginner" as you call yourself, that's pretty good!(:s11:)
I think I might understand why Isceon is doing what you describe he does: if you don't become the vassal of a Sicilian Order –directly if you become the vassal of an Order Member or indirectly if you become the vassal of a vassal of an Order Member– you become a threat. Reason is: having local players growing in power joining as vassals secures the land from fake Sicilians who might be players starting to play in Sicily (for example) but who later may choose to become vassals of enemy lands, like Seljuk knights, as you mentioned (NOTE: in the upper right corner of your city screen, you can go to HELP and CHRONIC where you can keep track of the current diplomacy. Seljuk and Sicily are at PEACE for the time being(:s9:)) and who offer ways for enemies to attack through your cities.

So, it is for him the best way to secure his zone of influence by having everyone there "under his control".

Now, as per the ways you describe he uses, yes, on other servers I have myself also suffered from this type of repeated actions. On one server, less than 24hours after I refused such an offer, two of my cities had been bulldozed by the friend of the guy the vassalship of which I had refused to embrace... Anyhow, sometimes it can really get ugly...(:s14:)
When it happens, I usually ignore it. I just destroy my own city and go elsewhere!
Or, I even take shelter under the care of a less greedy/friendlier Lord under the condition that he will protect and retaliate against that pushy player...

Some things you need to know: being a vassal offers many advantages:
- first, you can recruit troops that your Lord gets from the Mercenary Camps he controls that you would not be able to get otherwise ;

- then, you can travel through/attack from the cities of your Lord and the members of the Order he belongs to ;

- and you should also receive advice/backup/training/support/protection and be able take part in campaigns/attacks the same way as if you were a member of his Order!
Of course, it all depends on your Lord's personality, dedication to his vassals and trust in you!

Last thing to know but not least: you can leave a Lord within 24 hours with no consequence for you except of course the eventual actions your Lord could take against you later. So, bottom line: if your Lord doesn't live up to his promises, you can threaten to leave him ; if he doesn't positively changes, just leave him! He will then lose the Mercenary Points he was getting from you and also... lose a great player (:s10:)

So, no, the game is not always that ugly. Try to make peace with Isceon (it is always good to be in good terms with powerful players, especially the ones that are from your homeland (:s1:)(:ally:)) and negotiate what he is ready to offer for your MPs. Otherwise, if you are upset enough and not ready to forgive and forget what he did to you, go find another powerful Order Master in Sicily (or why not, the King of Sicily himself as there is one on the Outremer server (:s10:)) so that there would not be any way you would be attacked in the future for this reason by the same player!

Keep us posted on the progress on your situation! (:s1:)

Enjoy the game!(:s18:)

Paran007, Isceon's behaviour, though ruthless, is absolutely legit in this WAR game, as Wiki_Kiki rightly put it. Especially given the fact that you belong to a different nation, not his. Well, the Sicilians and Seljuqs are allied now but I suppose your case was before the alliance.

Vassals give glory points and this is so important that in effect every method of getting them is justified and valid in the eyes of those who need glory points. While very mild towards fellow Sicilians, I'd myself - in fact, I shall myself act as ruthlessly if needed when seeking vassals in other parts of Outremer.

Quote Paran007:
a new player have no other choice than to follow "a king"

This is the lesson of ingame life, Paran007 - if you have a lord you are protected and so can develop faster, safer and better. If you want your independence then, well, be prepared not only to decline potential lords' offers but also to fend their pressure off. Otherwise, quite simply, you will be CONQUERED in this WAR game if you pardon my capitals.

Quote WiKi_KiKi:
I recommend you get a different lord/ask for a different lord

A good recommendation though a bit pointless: what difference can it possibly be to Paran007? A lord is still a lord.
Quote Karloc:

(:s11:)

Paran007, read Karloc' post very carefully: he is telling you the truth. Once again, this is a war game. If you happen to prefer a more peaceful gaming experience there are the so-called 'German model strategy games'. Though, by all means, Paran007, don't go anywhere, stay with us. (:s21:)

We still need more vassals... (:s8:) Just a joke... (:s21:)

Get some allies that are in same kingdom as you and ask them to help you. And like he said get a lord that will help you and maybe even get his allies to help. Then you will stand a chance.(:s24:)(:demolish:)
