Just took my first look in a monsters cave and got slaughtered. Anyone got some tips, which troops are most effective against bears ? thanks

tip, try a barbarian settlement or a slave market (most players find these adventure hut locations easier than others) first until you can assess your strength compared to adventure hut troops. also, stay on the exit if you have any doubts and let them come to you. that way, if you need to leave because you're not strong enough, you can just leave!

crimson, you mean abandoned mines (not slave market)
I've had bad experiences in monster caves and I always avoid them... Like crimson said try abandoned mines or barbarian settlements as all you need for them is range-troops. This includes a good amount (but no more than 250) of norman archers, archers and marksmen. Oh, and make sure that you have at least 1000 swordsmen and a few pikes to be your 'meatshield'
Good luck!

I agree that barbarian settlement and abandoned mines are the best adventure huts for a new player. They are the easiest.
But I would prefer an army of 200 of each rangers, normans, marksmen, archers and horse archers + 400-800 swordsmen over the army that WiKi_KiKi suggests anytime.
That for a start and when you feel more confident you might also take royal guards or more meatshield with you... or maybe try the monsters cave again. That would be the next step.
