No, no, no, and no. No battle tactics is not for me. There is already way too little tactical control of your armies - and to drastically REDUCE the tactical control??????

I may change my mind, but right now?????? I'm thinking count me out. I'll give it a little bit more of a chance, but not much.

NO idea what your armies are doing. NO idea what you are up against. NO way to retreat. Puhleeze. I want an improvement to tactics, not a, a . . . a . . . .

. . .I can't think of a polite word.

No way to retreat is not quite correct. You can't tactically retreat. It is either all or nothing. You can leave the city, but you still have no idea what you might have faced or how you were doing. When you choose to leave, it is instantaneous, but I don't care. Part of the whole battle thing is having enough sense to scout ahead. Sheeesh, we learned that in Duke Nukem dudes! Or what was that castle shooter? The German fortress thingy? MORE THAN 10 years ago! Hello!

Sheesh - forgive me, I don't want to be disrespectful. Getting a little hot under the collar, I was. This is a giant step backwards.

Quite right - I apologize. I was just ranting (where have I heard that word before?) because of my frustration after spending the time and effort to establish a town and get things going - only to discover what "no battle tactics" actually meant.

I am on other servers - you'll figure out who i am there sooner or later. Some of us were thinking - a new server! a fresh start! a new opportunity! - i don't think we realized the full impact of what is being attempted.

imho, I think the devs would be better served by work on advancing tactical control - but I think I already said that in a rant somewhere.

Cheers!

that's the price you pay for being a 1st build tester...

I suppose I agree too but its a new type of server. lets see if it goes anywhere. If so then yaa, if not then back to working on what works, tactics.

There are no armies in the server. You just have troops. When you send a campaign, you always send a single army within a single campaign. There is the only control button on the opponent city - exit, and you watch the combat, or different actions that happen there. So questions regarding name/etc is useless.

Moreover, it is a limit of one army per hero as well. While you are building troops and there is active fight in your city, new troops could be a new armyes, but once combat finishes, they are all joined.

Argh, one more thing. All campaigns could be sent only with a hero inside. Moreover, if a hero dies in a battle, but you have won it, he would be actually wounded and not dead. However, if you lose, he will die. This gives option to save hero while he is taking part in the battle.

Fights are similar in speed, a bit slower because troops need to move, but a bit faster since army is split by troops - meaning that if your army has archers and swordsmen, archeres will stand and shoot, while swordsman will engage the opponent.

Walls just give defense bonuses plus increase the time for opponent to execute his awful actions like robbery, siege, etc - just because he needs to do sneaking through before making an action.

No operations are happening while there is a fight inside city. If there are 3 players in the city and all of them are enemies, 2 will fight against each other and the last one will wait for the opponent. If 4th player will join city, he will engage player 3 (if he does not have ally with player 1 or 2).

You can specify exact building to demolish, or just send a command - demolish during 24 hours. Almost all actions have a time frame limit in the attack screen, so you are almost sure that if you were better than the opponent, the army will automatically return once the operation finished or the time expired.

You see all opponents in the city, as well as the allies.

Uh no. That doesn't get me there. All that gets me is a big pretty scene of a town burning down, and pictures of my army below. Nothing like what was described - seeing the enemy units? nope. Seeing my units in action? nope. Seeing what I can rob? nope. Seeing what kind of danger my army is in? nope.

Nada.

Could be - I'm not sure - I lost 7 swords in one town and I know I didn't see any other army or marauders, BUT I might not have used the tactics screen that time. So I'll check a few more times, to make sure I've given this one a fair shot.
