Is there a need for walls in this server, since other armies can just get right into the city...?

Walls blocks an army with cavalry or siege units. If the army consists of foot soldiers only, it can pass thru walls. Walls gives your foot soldiers defensive bonus if stattioned there. I dont know if the enemy gets defense bonus on your very own walls.

Sir Adonis, you forget one small detail ... we have no tactics here, not in the way we were used to. How can you be sure your soldiers will place themselves on top of your walls ? (:s1:) Maybe they like to stay behind, in the shadow.
Cavalry and siege units will probably stop in front of a piece of wall but for how long ? The game mechanics may be different now and "tactics" are more closer to the Tribal Wars (or so it seems).
The point is things are going a bit different on this server and we must wait for details from developers or from those who are more advanced in game.

Walls slow down all troops, give defensive bonuses to troops stationed there and block machines and Cavalry

Thank you SNAK3 to wake up this old thread: seven months now and still no answer from the devs!

Good question...

ARAGON being a non-tactical server, I would say Walls are useless.

Would love a clarification from the Devs on that though! (:s30:)

... or from any experimented player on Aragon!

Ah yeah, the famous interview! I remember! Vajka was actually quite vague on the subject:
"Feildmaster: Walls... Do they work the same as in, slows the troops down, gives defensive bonuses when stationed, and blocks machines/cavalry?
Vjaka: only 1 and 2, no blocking from movement
Vjaka: and bonus only for defenders"

Out of my experience on Aragon, upon reaching the place you visit, you first have some 2 to 3 minutes of travel within the city and then, you face the enemy troops. Walls or not walls, I don't see any difference...
Also, no idea if the quantity of walls built counts or if just one is enough?
Is the place to build one important as there is no "place" for the armies to be stationed in a city?

Those are still mysteries to me...(:s31:)

maybe:
no walls they walk to the middle (3 min)

with walls, your troops automatically gain wall bonus but army still moves to middle of map to fight (3 min). think of walls as a town effect, not a cell affect, like the tavern's morale bonus.

That is how I see it, although I do not play aragon much.
